Apostille a Diploma or Transcript

Diplomas, degrees, and transcripts are commonly apostilled for teaching abroad (TEFL/TESOL), foreign employment, graduate school admissions, and professional licensing.

What you need

  • The original diploma OR a notarized copy of it.
  • For transcripts: an official sealed transcript from the registrar's office.
  • The state where the school is located (this determines the issuing Secretary of State).

Safest option: notarized copy

Most people don't want to risk mailing the original diploma. We recommend a notarized copy — many UPS Stores and bank notaries can do this. We also handle notarization in select states.

When you need a diploma apostille

  • Teaching English abroad (TEFL, EPIK, JET, NET, etc.)
  • Applying for foreign employment
  • Foreign graduate school applications
  • Professional licensing abroad (medical, engineering, legal)
  • Foreign work visas requiring proof of education
  • Credential evaluation services

How long does it take?

  • Standard: 5–10 business days
  • Express: 2–4 business days
  • Rush: 24–72 hours (select states only)

Common questions

Should I send the original or a notarized copy?

A notarized copy is safer and works for most countries. If the destination country specifically requires the original, send the original — we'll mail it back to you.

My transcript is sealed. Should I open it?

No — keep it sealed. The seal is part of what makes it official. We'll handle the notarization or routing required without breaking the seal.

What if my school has closed?

Most states keep records of closed schools through the State Department of Education. Contact us — we can often help locate and apostille older records.
